The firm's ecological awareness finds a coherent application in the foundation of the "depuratore consortile di Veneri" (a cooperative purification plant) which guarantees very high levels of purification of refluent water in the production processes. The "Cartonificio" also has an internal purification plant through which the water flows before passing through the one situated in the valley, and from here it is put back into nature, respecting the present pressing regulations.

As well as being respected, nature also needs to be preserved. It is for this reason that the new Community regulations -in force since 2007- impose rigid limits to the quantity of water used in the production process of paper. In order to sustain the application of the new regulations (Community directive 96/61/EC, known as IPPC) a pilot project "Paperbref" has been activated (costing over a billion and a half euros, co-financed for 50% by the European Union) in which some paper industries in the province of Lucca (those seen as significant for typology of production and size) have participated. The Cartonificio Sandreschi has been called to participate in the project, the results of which have demonstrated that the firm's use of water per ton of product is in conformity with the most pressing Community regulations in force since 2007.
